Submission Aligning Regulation Across Aged Care Disability Support and Veteran’s Care

FECCA advocates for a rights-based, equitable regulatory framework in its submission on aligning regulation across aged care, disability support, and veterans’ care. It emphasises the need to embed cultural diversity as a core principle, ensuring that regulations and care systems address the intersectional challenges faced by culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) individuals. FECCA highlights the disparities in access and quality of care for CALD individuals, noting that data collection on diversity is inconsistent and inadequate, which hinders informed policymaking. Recommendations include integrating culturally responsive practices, mandating regular training on cultural competency, and providing robust language services to improve access and equity for CALD communities in these care sectors.

FECCA also addresses the challenges faced by CALD workers in the care industry, emphasising the growing reliance on migrant care workers, many of whom face precarious working conditions and inadequate support. The submission advocates for the recognition and proper remuneration of bilingual and bicultural care workers and calls for culturally informed training and trauma-sensitive care approaches. FECCA further stresses the importance of community-based navigation systems to assist CALD individuals in accessing care services and understanding their rights. By embedding diversity and inclusion at all levels, FECCA argues, the regulatory alignment process can ensure that care services effectively meet the needs of Australia’s diverse population.
