Response to consultation Draft of National Injury Strategy 2020-30
FECCA has significant concerns regarding the omission of CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) perspectives on the National Injury Strategy 2020-30 Consultation Draft highlights. Emphasising that the draft fails to address increased injury risks among CALD communities due to language barriers and low health literacy. It also points out the lack of culturally appropriate injury prevention initiatives and the absence of CALD representation in the Strategy’s development team and advisory group. FECCA criticizes the inadequacy of existing data and literature on CALD injury impacts, stressing the need for targeted interventions to address these gaps.
FECCA calls for the inclusion of CALD issues as a priority in the Strategy, with culturally sensitive programs, better data collection, and a community-led approach to injury prevention. It highlights feedback from consultations, where participants supported the need to address the unique challenges of diverse populations. The submission urges the Strategy to align with the Australian Government’s Multicultural Access and Equity Policy and offers FECCA’s expertise to enhance CALD inclusivity in future iterations of the Strategy.
