Media Literacy Program - Phase 1 & 2 Insights
FECCA’s Media Literacy Program is a national initiative designed to strengthen media literacy, build resilience to misinformation and disinformation, and support informed participation in Australia’s increasingly complex digital information environment among culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.
The first two phases of the program have engaged more than 2,200 participants through 124 consultation sessions delivered by 22 community partner organisations representing 39 language and cultural groups across Australia.
Consultations highlighted growing concerns about misinformation, online scams, trust in information sources, and the impact of media narratives on wellbeing, belonging, and social cohesion.
Building on these insights, FECCA’s Train-the-Trainer program equipped approximately 142 community leaders with the skills and resources to strengthen media literacy within their communities.
Early findings show increased confidence in identifying misinformation, navigating digital platforms, and facilitating community discussions, with participants reporting greater willingness to critically assess information before sharing or reacting to online content.
