FECCA welcomes appointment of new Aged Care Complaints Commissioner

FECCA welcomes appointment of new Aged Care Complaints Commissioner

The Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA) welcomes the appointment of Ms Treasure Jennings as the new Aged Care Complaints Commissioner, commencing on 1 November 2025.

FECCA looks forward to working with Ms Jennings to ensure that the new complaints processes under the reformed Aged Care Act are inclusive, accessible and responsive to the needs of older Australians from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

For many older Australians, language barriers, cultural expectations and limited access to service providers with appropriate cultural and linguistic capability can make it difficult to raise concerns or navigate complaints systems. FECCA welcomes the Government’s commitment to strengthening independent oversight and fairness in aged care, and will continue to advocate for processes that are sensitive to these barriers and grounded in cultural understanding.

FECCA Chairperson Peter Doukas OAM said the appointment of Ms Jennings comes at a critical time for aged care reform.

“Older people from diverse backgrounds must have the same confidence and opportunity to raise concerns about their care as any other Australian. We look forward to collaborating with the Commissioner to ensure the system is fair, inclusive and responsive to every person’s circumstances.”

FECCA remains committed to working with the Government, the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission and advocacy partners to uphold the rights and dignity of older Australians, and to strengthen a care system that reflects Australia’s diversity.
