FECCA Submission To 2022 AMC Accreditation Assessment
The document is FECCA’s submission to the Australian Medical Council’s (AMC) accreditation assessment of the College of Intensive Care Medicine of Australia and New Zealand. FECCA places a need for the College to adopt a culturally inclusive framework to address health disparities affecting culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. It proposes a Multicultural Coordinating Framework to guide clinical and non-clinical practices, improve language support, and enhance health literacy for CALD patients. The submission also stresses the importance of mandatory cultural competency training for intensive care specialists to ensure the delivery of culturally appropriate care.
FECCA advocates for the inclusion of cultural, ethnic, and linguistic diversity in data collection and research to address gaps in understanding health inequities and improve service delivery for CALD populations. It highlights that current measures, such as using country of birth as a sole indicator, are insufficient. The submission concludes by recommending proactive engagement with CALD stakeholders in program development and research, aiming to foster a more equitable and inclusive healthcare system in intensive care medicine.
